About

Fyti is the weaving village of the Pafos region — a tiny settlement at 680 metres in the Pafos foothills, with a population of around 150 and a hand-loom tradition that has been passed down so faithfully it has become a distinctive style: 'fythkiotika', recognisable across Cyprus for the vibrancy of its colours and the variety of its geometric patterns. The Museum of Traditional Weaving in the village showcases the craft, and a couple of village houses still operate as working studios. Beyond weaving, Fyti is a quiet, beautiful village built around a chain of traditional fountains, with the church of Agios Demetrios in the square holding a beautifully preserved nineteenth-century altar screen. The surrounding area has several smaller villages within a three-kilometre radius (Lasa, Kritou Marottou, Anadiou) all at similar altitude, all worth a wander. Easy to combine with Inia and Drouseia further west.
