About

Drouseia is built at 630 metres at the highest point of the Laona plateau in the Pafos hills — the name comes from the Greek for 'cool' (drosera), describing the breeze that the village catches off the Akamas Peninsula even on the hottest summer afternoon. The traditional stone houses with carved doors and windows, the narrow winding lanes, and the long views from the village edge down across Polis bay to the sea are all reasons people return year after year. The setting is squarely on the Akamas hiking trails: from Drouseia you can walk straight out into the peninsula's wild northern coast. The village taverns are known for excellent Cypriot home cooking served with a warm family welcome. The fifteenth-century monastery of Agios Georgios Nikoxilitis, rebuilt after a 1923 fire, sits just outside the village. Sunset from the western edge of Drouseia, looking down over the plateau to the sea, is one of the great Pafos hill experiences.
