About
Vouni — 'low mountain' — is a small restored Krasochoria village in the Limassol mountains, seven kilometres north of Agios Therapon, with under 150 residents and a strong sense of revival. The village has become one of the more interesting agritourism stops in the wine region thanks to a couple of carefully restored guesthouses and an unusual local institution: the Vouni Donkey Sanctuary, which gives a home to retired and abandoned working donkeys and welcomes visitors to feed and walk them. The other anchor is Vouni Panayia Winery (one of the most respected boutique producers in Cyprus, with high-altitude vineyards) and a handful of smaller family wineries running tastings. Lanes are stone-paved, the houses are weathered limestone with wooden shutters, and the views look out over the Troodos slopes. A quiet, low-tourist alternative to the better-known Omodos and Lofou nearby.
