About
Vasa Koilaniou is one of the smaller, calmer Krasochoria villages — 750 metres up, four kilometres south of Omodos, with a population that hovers around 160 and a long viticultural pedigree. The village layout is classic Troodos limestone: paved streets, low stone houses, old presses and zivania distilleries you can still see in the back lanes. Wines from the village have been celebrated since antiquity; the modern boutique Argyrides Winery is the main producer today and offers tastings. There are three small museums worth an hour — the Museum of Education, the Museum of Zivania, and an ecclesiastical museum — plus a Venetian-era stone bridge (Gerovrysi) at the edge of the village and a short marked nature trail that loops through the surrounding terraces. The mid-September Grape Feast brings the village out for a long weekend of pressing, eating, and music. Quiet otherwise, and an easy stop on any drive through the wine route.
