About
Skarinou is a small Larnaca foothills village four kilometres west of Kofinou — the kind of place you would drive through and barely notice if it were not for one slightly unexpected resident: the Larnaka Donkey Sanctuary, a rescue centre that gives a home to retired and abandoned working donkeys and welcomes visitors to feed, walk, and learn about the animals that powered Cypriot rural life for centuries. It is one of the most family-friendly stops in the region, especially for visitors travelling with kids. Around the sanctuary, a small cluster of agritourism guesthouses has grown up — restored stone village houses with views over the surrounding foothills — and the village is a useful base for both the south coast (twenty minutes) and the cluster of nearby villages around Lefkara and Choirokoitia. Quiet, unassuming, and a pleasant complement to the more polished agritourism hubs in the same region.
