About

Polystypos is one of the highest villages in Cyprus at 1,150 metres, the kind of place that gets serious snow in winter and stays mountain-cool through the summer. Permanent population hovers around 130, the houses are scattered between vineyards, springs, and old walnut groves, and the village has a properly off-grid feel even though it is well-signposted and easy enough to reach. The local crop is hazelnuts, and the annual Hazelnut Festival in autumn is the moment to be here — village stalls, traditional sweets and pastes, folk music in the square. A 1,300-metre nature trail loops through an old hazelnut forest from three different starting points in the village. The Agios Nikolaos church, built 1908-12 in a Franco-Byzantine style, sits at the centre. Bring a jumper even in August.
