About

Lemithou sits at 1,100 metres in the Marathasa Valley, just below Prodromos — the highest village in Cyprus — and is one of the prettiest of the upper-Troodos cluster. The houses climb the slope in an amphitheatre layout amid pine forest and orchards, and the air is properly mountain-cool. The village is the birthplace of the philanthropist and businessman Anastasios Leventis (who made his fortune in West Africa), and the historic Mitsis Commercial School, founded here in 1912 with the Cypriot poet Demetris Lipertis as its first principal, is a small slice of mountain-village social history. The Troodos Square ski lifts are eight kilometres up the road, making Lemithou one of the few villages in Cyprus where you can ski in winter and walk the same slopes through orchards in summer. It's set up for agritourism in restored stone houses, and stays blissfully quiet outside the ski-weekend rush.
